借家が雨漏りして住めなくなり、困っていたところ、空き家になっていたクリーニング店の2階を無料で提供され、ここで寝泊りしていた。無料なので遠慮して、昼間は仕事の無いときは公園などで時間を潰していた。この住居には電話も引いていなかったため、仕事の依頼などは近くのあるファミリーレストランに取り次いでもらっていた。その関係もあって天本はそのファミリーレストランに頻繁に来店し、付近の住民にも親しまれていた。
